Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Defense Says There Has ‘Literally Never Been a Case’ Like His While Pushing for His Release
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ defense team walked away from his trial feeling victorious, and they’re now hoping to get even more for their client. The jury found Combs guilty of two of the five charges against him, significantly lowering the amount of time he will spend in prison. Still, Judge Arun Subramanian ruled that Combs should stay behind bars until his sentencing in October. His lawyers are pushing to change that.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ defense team is pushing to get him out of jail
Combs has been in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since last September. While his defense has repeatedly pushed for bail, the judge has denied their requests. Now, they’re trying to get Combs out of jail ahead of his sentencing. They have suggested a $50 million bond in addition to travel and interaction restrictions.
The jury found Combs guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution, which falls under the Mann Act. The law was passed in 1910. Combs’ lawyers believe his case falls outside its scope.
“There has literally never been a case like this one, where a person and his girlfriend arranged for adult men to have consensual sexual relations with the adult long-term girlfriend as part of a demonstrated ‘swingers’ lifestyle and has been prosecuted and incarcerated under the Mann Act,” they said, per Deadline. “Combs and two of his long-time girlfriends had a private, intimate life that is not uncommon today. It may not have been common on June 25, 1910, when the Mann Act, or as it was originally called, the White-Slave Traffic Act, was passed. But attitudes about sex and morality have come a long way in the last 115 years.”
They asserted their belief that Combs does not belong behind bars.
“Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct,” they wrote. “In fact, he may be the only person currently in a United States jail for being any sort of john, and certainly the only person in jail for hiring adult male escorts for him and his girlfriend, when he did not even have sex with the escort himself.”
Combs faces up to 20 years in prison, but many experts believe he will receive a significantly lesser sentence.
