The Sopranos is a drama that achieved acclaim upon its January 1999 release on HBO. For six seasons, the hit TV show made James Gandolfini a household name for his star turn as a mob boss in therapy. The story follows the series protagonist, Tony Soprano, as he faces the stresses of fatherhood, marriage, and organized crime. Supported by a stellar cast — including Edie Falco, Michael Imperioli, Toni Sirico, Steven van Zandt, Lorraine Bracco, Drea de Matteo, and Joe Pantoliano — the show and actors won numerous Primetime Emmy Awards, Golden Globes, and other accolades and honors. So fans had high expectations for The Sopranos' ending. But the series finale, which cut to black at a crucial moment in the closing scene, left viewers feeling cheated. Regardless, the show and its stars remain beloved long after the final episode in 2007 and Gandolfini's death in 2013.
